MJ book launch: redux
the short version is that i was already wet and quite tired, and after saying "hi!" but not much more to about 2/3s of the people i wanted or needed to, i fled with v!ck to a nearby italian for proper food and boozy gossip -- i had had a couple of cheeky squidweapons squibs i actually wanted to launch, and didn't*, so am feeling a bit glum about my uselesness -- though it was basically a perfectly friendly if typical book launch, a mix of foax i am hugely fond of, rather prickly towards, indifferent to, and spitefully amused by. As a chum said, in an email this morning, "all that competitiveness and feuding! so exhausting!" And this was just the core gang...

As we fled and I hunted for my H&M hoodie, I had to hunt through a coat rack of 20 MILLION EXPENSIVE ALL-BLACK COATS, BLACK, BLACK AS MY FUTILE LIFE etc.

*viz that the next such project -- similarly approached -- shd be THE RESISTANCE DEMISE OF THE FOURTH INTERNATIONAL (i wd love to see this same mob tackle this same topic actually, as it would force some of the more glibly "political" among them to stop sidling up to existing power microblocs and think about politics)**
**yes yes i am rubbish at gossip

Must admit we were quite proud about being practically the only people to turn up IN COLOUR! Didn't really get to rap with anyone much except K-Punk and Dr V, i.e. weren't introduced to anyone new and didn't feel much inclined to strike up acquaintances. It was quite fun though and we discreetly left while it was dry outside. For my own book launch I will demand compulsory attendance in what Jeremy Clarkson calls "c**t jackets," i.e. primary colours favoured by eighties daytime quiz show hosts and erm myself.

people who are good at introductions: d.stvbbs and k.eshvn, who are very old-skool in the dispersal of courtesies

people who are bad at introductions: everyone else there inc.sadly me -- i always assume everyone already knows everyone else and that i am surely the latecomer

I was happy to meet K-Punk & Dr. V and wouldn't have known what to say to anyone else really, DS looked like a German architect to me and my only gossip is that I've asked the Hammersmith & Fulham libraries to stock all three books!

I misread this as "MY book launch: redux" and was quite excited, thinking that you had recommitted yourself to the book and were well underway in its completion.

no my next one is really some way away even if its party radically anticipates the completion!
