so i came back on the bus from a post-lollards pubmeet reading vol 2 of his dark materials and i wz totally in cita'gazze w.will and lyra and then in our oxford with mary malone and as i got to chapoter end i lifted my head and looked out of the window to a line of shopfronts = foodplaces, african and turkish, and they could be anywhere in london but i knew EXACTLY where i was with a wave of safe comfort = the shops by hackney empire 200 yards from where i first moved here 25 years ago and i was just utterly happy in myself for the shift between bookworld (which is about shifts between worlds) and busworld and lollardworld and homeworld (= hackney) where i have lived longer than anywhere else now

I think, right now, that's there's nowhere I would rather have that connection with than London, and indeed specifically Hackney. I didn't previously realise that (and anyway it might change in the next 10 months): thanks, man.

Hackney is ace. I do think of it as home now, Oxfordshire has long ceased to be that, and everywhere else I have lived in London always seemed much more, hmm, functional? Not like a home, I mean.
